Whether you live in Oz or are just visiting the land of the southern sun these are a few of the big attractions that are as 'big' as the wild outback itself. When a country is as big as Australia it screams for a need to have the most unique architecture and unusual sights of any country. It is a task that Australians have long embraced and done well as these attractions will prove. Big Banana at Coffs Harbour, NSWIf you want to see unique buildings Australia has more than its share but the Big Banana is probably the most unique. Shaped like a huge banana it was designed to be a real attention getter for passersby and it works. You will have a hard time taking your eyes off of this attraction. To get there, most people are headed through Coffs Harbour, on their way between Sydney and the Gold Coast along the Pacific Highway. The Big Golden Guitar at Tamworth, NSWThe Big Golden Guitar is a staple in front of the tourist center in Tamworth. It's just another one of the amazing and unique things that will catch your eye as you discover Australia and the many unique monuments that make this country so creative and unforgettable. While you are there you can also stop in the Hall of Fame right there where country music is celebrated to its fullest. The Big Merino at Goulburn, NSWAustralia is known for its wool production and sheep population. The Big Merino is a symbol of that pride in the fleece industry and captured in the form of a huge Merino Ram. It took six months to build and weighs a massive 97 tonnes. There is a gift shop and lots of information on the wool industry but the building itself is worth the trip to see. The Big Oyster at Taree, NSWThe Big Oyster is a building in the shape of—you guessed it, an oyster. Complete with window wall 'teeth' in the opening of the shell it has also been called the 'big dentures' for its close resemblance to a set of false teeth. The Big Boxing Crocodile at Humpty Doo, NTIn the Australian outback up in the Northern Territory, and often even in the city Darwin, crocodiles are a common sight. However, you won't see anything like this Croc! Situated 47km from Darwin as you travel to Kakadu, is the small town of Humpty Doo. Humpty Doo is home to the Big Boxing Crocodile which is a must see when cruising along the Arnhem Highway from Darwin to Kakadu in the Northern Territory - goodness knows there is little else to see! The Big Boxing Crocodile stands as a hilarious reminder of the local crocodile population. The Giant Koala at Dadswells Bridge, VICA giant Koala bear standing guard in over an eatery is not your usual sight and this one will surely amuse you. It is a pretty sure bet you will never have another chance to eat inside the belly of a cuddly Koala if you miss this chance. The Big Prawn at Ballina, NSWThere aren't many places in the world where you can dry by and see an enormous prawn (shrimp) that looks like it is about to eat a building—in fact there probably aren't any other places in the world you can see that. The best way to drive here is to book yourself some cheap car rental from Gold Coast airport and drive the 2 hours south as you're on your way towards Sydney. Inside the Big Prawn you will find all of the souvenirs you could hope for to remember your Australian holiday. The Big Pineapple at Nambour, QLDThe Big Pineapple stands as a testament to the working farms of Australia and is in fact at the entry of one of Australia's actual produce farms.
